Innovative Packaging

Cohesive Packaging Machines (Cold Seal)

Cold seal technology capable of packaging over 1,000 orders per hour.  This technology considerably increases order throughput and reduces labor.  Orders are automatically fed through the machine where they are wrapped and sealed with a packaging material of the user’s choice.  Materials include bubble, rigid board, and film/paper laminate.  The wrapping process does not involve heat.  The cold seal material is specifically designed to only adhere to itself, not the enclosed order.  Orders can be inducted using a lugged infeed conveyor or placed directly into the machine’s induction area.  Upon induction, the order’s bar code is scanned, a unique LPN inkjet bar code is printed onto the cold seal material, and the LPN is associated with the order.  The LPN is used to track the order throughout various operations and ensures order accuracy.  This packaging is an ideal solution for books, CDs, DVDs, electronics, irregular shaped items, and other smaller sized items.  Optional equipment integrated with this machine includes document feeders, pack list printers, lugged infeed conveyors, in-motion scales, and shipping label printer applicators.

Cartons with Shrink Film

New carton technology incorporates a shrink film that is glued inside the carton.  The film acts as a liner inside the carton when it is erected.  The operator places the order into the carton then folds the film over the order.  FastTrak directs completed orders to a shrink tunnel where the film tightens around the order and secures it to the carton.  The film ensures products do not roll or move around during shipping.  This process completely eliminates the need for void fill, making it an environmentally friendly, green solution.  The film is able to secure small and large size orders using one carton size, making it extremely versatile.  Cartons can be custom designed to incorporate a client’s logo, special holidays, and other advertising needs.  FastTrak uses an LPN bar code on each carton to control and track the carton’s movement throughout packaging and shipping operations.

Conformable Packaging Machines (DIM Reduction)

Items are placed in a carton and their heights are scanned and measured.  Software determines the largest item height in the carton and cuts the carton’s corners to that level.  The sides are gently compressed on top of the order.  The compressed sides and a perforated lid are hot melt glued into place.  An LPN bar code is applied to the carton and FastTrak uses the bar code to track the items as it moves through fulfillment.  This process is ideal for random piece pick orders because it greatly reduces dimensional weight, shipping costs, and eliminates the need for void fill.  Options include document/pack list insertion and shipping label printing and applying.

Inner Lid Protection

A carton travels to an inner lid machine once it is filled with an order.  The machine measures the heights of the items with a sensor and inserts a flanged piece of cardboard.  The cardboard contours to the cartons contents and its sides are hot melt glued into place.  The cardboard secures the carton’s contents without the need for void fill.  This process increases sustainability because it does not require void fill and is easily recyclable.  FastTrak identifies each carton using an LPN bar code and can insert the order’s correct literature and pack list.  A lid is automatically placed and glued onto the carton and it is conveyed for final processing.  This is a completely automated process that eliminates void fill and lowers labor costs.
