Larry Kuhn
President and Founder
Larry Kuhn, founder of GRSI, was born and
raised in Philadelphia PA. He attended Columbia University in New
York City where he received a B.S., M.S, and Ph.D. in Engineering
and Engineering Physics.
His first position in industry was a ten-year
stint as a researcher at the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center
in Yorktown Heights, N.Y. During that period Larry made
significant contributions as a researcher and manager to new
technologies including optical communications, advanced
semi-conductor devices (CCD, MOSFET), and ink jet printing. He
accumulated 12 patents, and wrote more than 25 technical
publications. His work in ink jet printing research led to the
launching of new printer product development programs at IBM
Development Laboratories in San Jose CA, and Tucson AZ. Larry
moved West to manage the technology side of the product
development that grew out of his research. He spent five years
working on these new programs.
Later, Larry left IBM, and moved back to the
Philadelphia area to assume management of product development for
Decision Data, a manufacturer of IBM plug-compatible printers and
workstations. He spent five years at Decision Data where he
managed the development and launching of significant products for
the IBM AS/400 marketplace.
In 1987 Larry left Decision Data to pursue a
long-held dream to start his own business. He founded GRSI (Glen
Road Systems, Inc.). The business was literally started in his
garage on Glen Road in Elkins Park PA. The focus of the business
was system integration of bar code data collection in support of
manufacturing operations. Shortly later GRSI moved to its first
“official” space in Jenkintown PA. Later, after outgrowing its
second Jenkintown location, the business moved to its current
Conshohocken location. During recent years the focus of the
business has been warehouse automation system integration.
Some
of Larry’s
interests outside of the business include the cello, tennis,
sailing, and spending down time in the Endless Mountains of Northeastern
Pennsylvania.
